Hearne Fine Art celebrates 34 years of Black Culture and celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. Samella Lewis
"Art is not a luxury as many people might think. It is a necessity. It documents history-it helps to educate people and stores knowledge for generations to come " - Samella Lewis, PhD
This is the caption above the inside wall in Hearne Fine Art. I was fortunate enough to meet Dr. Lewis in 2004 and welcomed her to Little Rock in 2007 for a solo exhibition and artist talk. This moment in time cemented my commitment to sharing Black culture through literacy and the visual arts. ART is the basis of humanity and enhances our existence in so many ways. It is essential that all know how important ART is and how much it enhances our lives. Our artists are our storytellers and our patrons are the recipients and bear the responsibility of keeping the tradition going. Collecting art is a destiny and a commitment. We proudly celebrate the legacy of Dr. Samella Lewis and the contributions she has made through her artistic endeavors as well as the role of an art historian.
Hearne Fine Art has existed since 1988 because of the collaborative spirit and support of artists, patrons, and the community . There is only one happiness in life, to love and to be loved. What and who you love is personal and, in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make and give. The best love is the kind that awakens the soul and makes us reach for more that plants a fire in our hearts and brings peace to our minds.
Over the last 34 years, we have shown love to over 75 artists through more than 250 solo and group exhibitions. We have collaborated with institutions and organizations to create a path of longevity through literacy and the visual arts. Come on this journey with me.......because LOVE IS.... ART!
